Phil Barhouse is Market Development Manager for Spartech Packaging Technologies. Phil has been in the plastic's quality field for 22 years. In his current role, he is responsible for development support and commercialization of packaging growth initiatives. Prior to Spartech, Phil worked for Creative Forming Inc. for 14 years. During these years, he has held positions of Value Stream Manager and Director of Quality Systems/Research & Development. At Creative Forming, Phil was responsible for extrusion operations, thermoforming and extrusion quality.  In addition, Phil was in charge of R&D in the area of resin development. He has been involved in all aspects of quality including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and ISO 9000 certification.

Mr. Barhouse has spent the sixteen years studying polymer processing, material rheology, and thermoforming technology. Phil provided the technical advising and review of a series of books entitled “Speaking of Plastics Manufacturing” published by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

Phil has been involved with the Board of Directors of the SPE Thermoforming Division since 1999. He was elected to the SPE Board in 2000 and currently serves as Chair Elect. Phil was Chairman of the Materials Committee from 2000 – 2002 and Roll Fed Technicial Chairman for the 2000 & 2003 thermoforming conferences. He has also served as moderator for the 2003 & 2005 thermoforming conferences.

He is a member of The American Society for Quality and has received his Six Sigma Black Belt training from Motorola in 2006. Prior to working at Creative Forming, Phil was with Dexter Electronic Materials in Industry, California. At Dexter, he was involved in testing polymeric materials and assisted in the development of their quality system in accordance with ISO9001 quality standard. Phil received his education from California State University Long Beach.
